Nov. 6, 2019

Dr. Scott Bonar, SNRE professor and leader of the USGS Arizona Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, has been elected as 135th president of the American Fisheries Society (AFS). Dr. Bonar has worked for over 25 years toward the management and conservation of native fish species, collaborating with hundreds of wildlife professionals and pioneering a standardized monitoring regime for freshwater fisheries across North America. As AFS's newest president, Dr. Bonar's experience with balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders offers a glimmer of hope for North American fisheries, which are currently facing unprecedented anthropogenic pressure.
